PC or Mac?

I have to get a new computer because my old one is continuing to give me problems. My question to everyone is should I get a Mac or PC? I have heard so many things; however I thought that I would ask here as I am sure to get some unbiased responses. I want my new computer to last for several years because I really do not have the funds to keep buying one every several years or so. The one that I have now is about 4 years old and continues to freeze up and when I move it the screen becomes blank; I think that it has a short in it somewhere.
